Rent a boat for an afternoon exploring the shore lines of Tahoe. This is just one of many companies that rent boats around the lake and a lot of other companies rent Jet Ski’s as well so you have plenty options if availability is an issue.
The Monkey Rock hike is a hike that gives you a lot of bang for your buck in terms of epic views following a relatively short hike. Lying about a mile up Tunnel Creek Road inside the boundaries of Spooner Backcountry - Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park and a little farther down a well-worn spur trail are some wide, panoramic views of north Lake Tahoe, as well as the photogenic granite boulder carved out by a local to resemble a monkey. At 2.5 miles roundtrip, the trail isn't too long, and the hike tends to be a popular one with all age groups, but with a little over 400 feet of elevation gain, expect a slow, steady pace.
See where it all started for Derrick at one of the best local spots in Tahoe. Mountain High Sandwich Co. is a staple in Incline Village serving some of the best organic food there is. From their famous TPA (Turkey Pesto Avocado) to their mouth watering BBQ tri-tip. And veggie options like the All Good Veggie or Harmony Wrap. Say hi to the owners John and Ashley Brimm. Some of the most friendly, down to earth people you’ll ever meet. These wonderful individuals gave Derrick and his best man (Tyler) an opportunity to get on their feet and it turned into an unforgettable relationship that was a cornerstone in their life here in Tahoe. Forever grateful.
Best local spot for all your spirit needs! Also an incredible couple who played a huge part in Janelle’s success out here in Tahoe. Make sure to stop by and say hello to Miles and Mayra and check out their collection of beer, spirits and wines!
Carved millions of years ago by passing glaciers, this state park is a must-see for anyone looking to experience Lake Tahoe's beauty. Sheltered by towering trees, this inlet along the southwest shore of Lake Tahoe is known for its colorful granite cliffs and stunning panoramas. Follow Highway 89 south from Tahoe City (about 20 miles) or north from South Lake Tahoe (about 10 miles) and you'll come across the Emerald Bay Lookout, the park's crown jewel. And you should make sure you have a camera on hand – the scenery is breathtaking and travelers say there are photo opportunities everywhere you turn.
Skunk Harbor is one of North Lake Tahoe’s hidden beaches. It can only be accessed by hiking or biking the 1.6-mile long trail. The “trail” is actually an old road with a lot of history. As you hike, see if you can spot the remains of an old railroad grade, which was built in the 1870s to supply timber to Virginia City. The road winds through a mixed conifer forest with wonderful Lake Tahoe views and eventually splits off in two directions. The left fork leads to Prey Meadows where you can picnic next to a creek among fragrant wildflowers. The right fork will take you to the picturesque cove and Skunk Harbor beach which tends to be less crowded, yet still stunning as you can see from the photos.
If you like to try your luck and catch a good show while your at it, look no further than the Crystal Bay Casino. We’ve seen some of the best concerts at this casino and have won as much money as we’ve lost. Always a good time here!
Downtown Truckee, CA. Where Janelle and I now call home. A very quaint little town with a lot to offer. With a plethora of restaurants, shops and bars to choose from. It may seem small but you probably still won’t have time to really take it all in, so make sure you spend a full day up here exploring.
While you’re up in Truckee, make sure to swing over to Donner Lake and check out the views from the top of the span bridge. Hike the abandoned train tunnels for some amazing art and more views of the lake. Then on your way back you can claim one of the public docks for a relaxing break from the hustle and bustle of the “big city” of Truckee.
If you enjoy disc golfing like we do, and you’ve got some spare time for a good hike and great views. Allow us to let you in on a little hidden gem and one of our personal favorite disc golf courses of all time, Donner Ski Ranch. With some of the most beautifully designed holes laid out over some of the most stunning and technical terrain, this is no doubt a top notch course. And then meet us at Old 40 bar and Grille afterwards for a beer!
