It’s hard to meet people in a male dominated field and Derrica getting hired was a godsend. Easily the best looking woman in the office. Unfortunately I didn’t have much occasion to speak to her because she didn’t have much occasion to come to the office. Without being too obvious I had to ingratiate myself. After an awkward introduction it took some time to develop a rapport but I developed one in spite of myself. We started to spend more time together, we went to lunch a few times. She even ate my food of my off my plate, right in front of my face. Obviously I let her at the time because it was all a part of the plan. But the real turning point though was going to the tech conference at the Birmingham makers space. We went to the hipster food court and had dinner afterwards, I only remember what I had. She invited Rodney and I to her graduation party, paintballing, moving a mattress, all good signs. At a certain point I started getting personal invites without Rodney and that’s when I knew I was in.

I met Scott shortly after moving back home to Birmingham and starting a new job. We had a very awkward and slightly cringe first interaction, but after some time passed we were able to joke about it. At the time, I was solely focused on building my career. A relationship was not in the plan. God himself would’ve had to tap me on my shoulder and tell me that the person in front of me was my guy. Obviously, this never happened and Scott wasn’t the most direct so I thought that I just had a new friend with clever jokes. After almost a year of hanging out in group setting, Scott and I had our first one on one. I can’t call it a date because again, I had no idea that the man even liked me 🥴. I always thought that Scott was an attractive guy, but after that night I started to realize that I had grown feelings for him as more than a friend.

We are looking forward to celebrating our love with our family and friends on our wedding day. More importantly, we are excited that we get to do life and start a family together. Our wedding day will be a memorable occasion. Some aspects will fall in line with traditions but mostly we’re going to do things our own way ☺️
