What is a Mehndi?

Answer

For those unfamiliar with one – In traditional Pakistani culture, a pre-wedding event called a Mehndi kicks off the wedding festivities. It is a very vibrant and colorful event. You can expect Pakistani food, music, dancing, and entertainment and lots of colorful decor at this traditional fete. The dress code is semi-formal and celebratory. You can wear a flowy maxi dress, long skirts, a long Pakistani-inspired outfit.

What is a Baraat?

A Baraat is a traditional wedding procession in which the groom arrives on a decorated horse, carriage, or luxury car at the wedding venue with his family and friends in a festive parade.

What is a Nikkah?

Answer

A Nikkah is the Islamic marriage contract ceremony. It’s the religious and legal component of a Muslim wedding, where the bride and groom formally accept each other as spouses in the presence of witnesses and an officiant. Prayers and a short sermon are typically included. When followed by a reception, it means: The Nikkah ceremony takes place first (often at the same venue or earlier in the day), and It's followed by a wedding reception, which is the celebratory event with food, speeches, and social gathering similar to Western wedding receptions.

What is a Walima?

A Walima is the marriage banquet hosted by the groom’s side, typically held after the Nikkah and wedding festivities. It is the final official celebration of a Muslim wedding.
