Across the Connecticut River from Hanover is Norwich, Vermont. We love King Arthur Baking Company, where you can purchase baked goods, shop for every baking supply you can imagine, and even walk in some wooded trails. There is also the Montshire Museum of Science, which is a really fun place especially for kids.
We love walking up Central Street, there are lots of cute shops with a small park at the end. There are beautiful homes here, so a walk through the neighborhood would also be nice. Visit: Billings Farm and Museum Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park To Eat: Mon Vert Cafe Worthy Kitchen To Drink: Au Comptoir Coffee: If you're up for a scenic 10-minute drive north from Woodstock, our favorite coffee is at Abracadabra! One of our favorite days trips we've done was to Franconia and Sugar Hill. We started the day with a hike on Bridal Veil Falls Trail, and then went to Polly's Pancake Parlor for breakfast. We had about an hour wait for our table, so we drove back into Franconia just as Iron Furnace Brewing opened. We had a beer and got back to Polly's for pancake flights. We would absolutely repeat everything we did this day. There are many excellent hikes in Franconia Notch State Park, just south of Franconia. Also, the lupine should be in bloom, which will make this a beautiful drive and view from Polly's!
Burlington is where Kyle proposed to Haley! Burlington is full of bike paths and breweries, two of our favorite things. Church Street is a pedestrian mall area with lots of shopping. Burlington is right on Lake Champlain, so there are also waterfront walking paths. Visit: MetroRock Climbing Gym (Essex Junction) Centennial Field (Vermont Lake Monsters Baseball) To Eat: Mountain Valley Restaurant (this may be the best Indian either of us have ever had)
Boston is a two-hour drive or coach bus from where we are in new Hampshire. This would make an excellent day trip! The Red Sox have weekday home games before and after our wedding weekend.
Portland is three hours away, and you've already made it this far! Portland is so fun and beautiful, and a gastronomical paradise.
There are so many other cool places in Lebanon, NH, the town we live in, and right across the river in White River Junction. Stowe, VT and Portsmouth, NH are very cool, as are the capitals, Concord and Montpelier.
