First Date

13th April’17

Meghna - The first date as I remember I was hoping the guy looked like I remember him looking like. And then going Wow!! He looks like a better Jude Law (Nicee!). All I remember of the date is laughing and smiling a lot from his stories about Marley (‘Our’ Cat) and his two nieces (Kayla and Jemma). I don’t remember who texted whom first but I remember that being the first thing that happened next morning. I broke the news about me traveling to India to meet my family. And we decided to do the Facebook friend thing. Have to say, that part was slightly terrifying. Derek - It was great! We were supposed to go out for the normal first date which can be kind of short. We ended up talking at the restaurant for about 3 hours. She mentioned she would walk home so I offered her a ride home thinking I could impress her with my nice new ride. She accepted but unfortunately did not offer any compliments about my Jeep. Meghna did pose a problem that she was going to India in a few days so the second date we both wanted would have to wait. Worse she was not going to have cell phone service. As a remedy we decided to take the Facebook friends plunge before scrubbing our pasts so we could message each other which seems to have worked out.

Falling in love - Family Style

Thanksgiving - So nervous. I called my aunt (Badi Ma) to tell me what was the expected etiquette. I really wanted to make a good impression. I was suppose to meet a lot of the family. But Derek made it all alright. We arrived and I tried to keep all the names straight. But everyone was so generous with me. It reminded me of my family and everyone back home. I remember meeting mom(Becky) and dad(Lowry) and the girls! Derek was a charmer and took such good care of me. Attentive, understanding, patient . Seeing him with his family and watching him interact with them, I fell a little more in love that day. India trip - When I went to India I was scared. I had talked to her parents maybe once and only tried Indian food a handful of times which includes times with Meghna. I never liked the food. I should not have worried. Her mom makes amazing Indian food which is nothing like I had ever had. When I arrived in India her parents met us with props to take pictures and her grandparents gave traditional Indian clothes. It was so much fun and I can't wait to go back for our Indian Wedding. What really stood out to me was her family's love for each other which showed how genuine they are. I saw way too many tears towards the end of the trip :(

The Proposal

'Have you guys been married?'

I was nervous, so nervous and I shouldn't have been. I had already semi asked her to marry me because I wasn't about to make some stupid mistake. What I was really scared about was that I didn't really have a good plan. I really just wanted to get it over with so we could start the next chapter of our lives. Luckily Costco ships rings quickly. We went out to dinner, went to one of our favorite spots to watch a comedy show in Pike Place Market, and in between shows I eventually got her to walk down the street. At some random time I kind of made a stupid joke in front of some old people and then asked her to marry me. We have pictures, just ask.
