The Menil Collection
This free art museum sits within walking distance of the University of St. Thomas campus. The surrounding Menil Park (and the beautiful Menil Drawing Institute) is an ideal place to picnic, hang out with friends, or walk the dog. (Nash loves it, too!) It's also where Derek "popped the question" to Shundeez nearly three years ago.

The Pit Room
Essentially across the street from where we live, The Pit Room is arguably the best BBQ "inside the loop" in Houston. Juicy brisket, jalapeno sausage, delicious ribs, and a myriad of wonderful sides are all worth trying. (Their queso is surprisingly awesome, too!) With The Patio sports bar sharing the same space, this restaurant/bar has been one of our go-to spots for years.
Double Trouble Caffeine & Cocktails
The best combination bar-coffee shop in town! It's also where we had our first date...
Buffalo Bayou Park
Excellent park with walking/biking trails, a large dog park, and some of the best views of downtown Houston. It's also where Shundeez & Derek had their recent "engagement" photos taken.
Bayou City Art Festival
Art festival occurring downtown on Saturday & Sunday of our wedding weekend.
Warren's Inn
Derek's favorite bar in Houston. Much like he, Warren's is friendly, unique, old-school, and has a peculiar smell to it... but they make some of the best cocktails in town. Great jukebox, too.
Diced Poke Houston
Shundeez & Derek's go-to when they don't feel like cooking (and Shundeez doesn't want to pick a place). Fresh, conveniently located, and always hits the spot. Great miso soup, too!
West Alabama Ice House
Great little neighborhood ice house. Dogs, basketball, and one of the best spots in town to enjoy a cold one on a sunny day. Also conveniently located next to one of the best taco trucks in Houston.
NASA Johnson Space Center
A bit of a drive from our part of town, but if you've never been, now's your chance! (Full disclosure: Derek has never been to NASA. He claims he will eventually go... after the wedding.)
