Laurel and Derek met while they attended Staunton River High School and had classes together. One Saturday they made plans to go on a double date with some friends to the Peaks of Otter for a hike and picnic. From there the rest is history! They graduated as high school sweethearts and continued dating for many years. Through this time Laurel attended Radford University to become a teacher while Derek was working for Norfolk and Southern out of state. Distance brought them even closer together. Now, it is almost hard for us to remember our lives before each other. We are over flowing with excitement to spend the rest of our lives together and celebrate with you all!
We planned a trip out west. One of the vacations we both dreamed of going on. We were staying in an Under Canvas campsite in a beautiful location right outside of Yellowstone National Park. One night we returned back to our campsite after a delicious BBQ dinner. Derek asked if I would like to stay up and sit by the fire to make smores. If anyone knows us, they know Derek is not one to stay up late and smores are my favorite! Derek started to look around and I started looking for what he saw. Before I knew it, I opened my eyes and he was down on one knee. I said yes! This was the highlight of the trip.
