Yes, we are your 21st Century couple who met on the internet. Early on, Derek sensed Alex’s obsession with dogs and successfully scored a date with her by using his dog, Holly, to catch her attention. Their first date was at 16-Bit, an arcade/bar in Lakewood, Ohio. Derek was wearing a flannel in mid-summer and Alex initially was concerned about his judgement (and occasionally still is). But, they hit it off over beers and arcade games. Derek tried to show off his pinball skills, and although Alex finds pinball a bit boring, she was impressed (his good looks may have also had something to do with it). Their date continued into the night, wandering down the street to Winking Lizard (which was closed, but where they picked up a necessary snack of old popcorn to fuel the rest of their journey). They ventured to O’Tooles where they listened to live music and continued to get to know each other. Their last stop was Alex’s apartment roof, so they could admire the night sky (and each other). The next day, Derek realized he had misplaced his wallet. His roommate immediately suggested that Alex had stolen it. Alex searched the roof (no luck) and her car (success!) and he came by to pick it up. He still thinks she took it so she would have a reason to see him again. She still thinks he left it for the same reason. We may never know if it was a fateful accident or an intentional excuse to see each other, but we do know that it was the beginning of something great.
