After much thought, we have decided to move forward with a small wedding consisting of only immediate family and the wedding party. With Shawnee County recommending gatherings be limited to only 25 people and the size of our venue, we felt that this was the only way to ensure everyone’s health and safety. It was a really difficult decision, but it is important to us that our day doesn’t result in any of our family or friends getting sick. You can still join us for the ceremony online through zoom. We really appreciate everyone’s love and support! Ceremony Zoom Link: https://zoom.us/j/96355917042?pwd=NzZPVEdmMEZUV2c0U3hnUG5tbWlwQT09&from=msft
Derek and Lindsay met while attending dental school in Kansas City in 2014. They sat directly across from one another in lab classes for 2 years, becoming good friends in the process. In March of 2016, Lindsay's family had extra tickets to the Big XII basketball tournament, and she invited Derek and another friend to come to the games. It wasn't until later that year that they learned that Lindsay's family was secretly making bets that day on whether Derek was more than just a friend. That summer, Derek finally asked Lindsay out for some ice cream. Derek was so nervous he could barely eat, something rarely said in their house when it comes to ice cream ;)
After graduation, they moved to Topeka and in April 2019 Derek popped the question. Derek told Lindsay they were going to meet Derek's parents at KC Wine Co before heading to the plaza for a nice dinner together. Derek watched the weather for weeks leading up to the big day just hoping for the Kansas weather to cooperate, and cooperate it did. When they arrived at the winery, Derek told Lindsay that his parents were running behind and they should walk around until his parents arrive. After making it halfway down the grape vines, Derek gave a speech he had practiced in his head for weeks, but if you ask either of them they can't recall a single word in that moment until Derek was on one knee and Lindsay said YES!. Shortly after, Lindsay said "I need to call my family!" Luckily, Derek planned ahead and all the parents were waiting for them to celebrate when they walked back to the main building to cap off a beautiful day.
