Denver and I went on a trip with his family, to Red River, NM where we stayed in a cozy cabin along the river. My room was right on the shore of the Red River itself, where I fell asleep every night to the sounds of the river rushing by, surrounded by God's beautiful creation - the Sangre de Cristo mountain range. Denver scheduled a four hour horse back riding tour, up Wheeler Peak, the highest mountain in New Mexico. Two hours into our horse back riding adventure, we stopped at Middle Fork lake, a place Denver had grown up visiting since he was less than a year old. It's a beautiful and secluded high mountain lake surrounded by evergreen forests and frosty mountain peaks. We had 30 minutes at the lake to explore and during that time, Denver lead me to a private space on the edge of the lake. It was here that he asked me to marry him, a special and intimate moment that I'll never forget. By chance, luck, and God's blessing, a hiker who had just arrived at the lake was a photographer from Austin, TX who offered to take some photos for us before we headed back down the mountain. We will cherish these photos and memories for the rest of our lives. After riding our horses back down the mountain and arriving home to the our cabin, we discovered that his mom and brother had decorated while we were away, and they were waiting to greet us with confetti canons! We enjoyed a great moment together followed by a nice celebratory dinner at Brett's Bistro. For the rest of our week in the mountains, we relaxed and soaked it all in, savoring every moment our first week engaged.
