Dear family, friends, loved ones: As you may have heard, Dennis Smith and Georgianne Gale are to be married in May, some 50 years after falling in love. Georgie’s brother, David, will be officiating in Creede, Colorado, along the Rio Grande, or on a beautiful mountain – still to be determined. For some background: Dennis and Georgianne began dating in 1971. In 1972, her mom and dad divorced, so they moved away from that area into the Jefferson District. They broke up soon after. It was heartbreaking, but since he was four years older, their families believed they were too young for a serious relationship. A few years later, Dennis met and married a wonderful woman named Linda “Loo” Wendt. They went on to have a beautiful family and a wonderful life. In 2016, Loo contacted Georgie to help her plan a surprise birthday party for Dennis. The two became fast friends as they had so much in common. They would go to luncheons or women’s weekends and exchange healthy recipes. When Georgie’s mom was hit by hurricane Harvey, Loo rounded up a giant care package to send down to her. Loo also insisted that she and Dennis attend G.G.’s (Georgianne’s dad) funeral. Loo was a wonderful human being, a good mom, a loving wife, and a great teacher until she retired in 2016. She passed away unexpectedly in 2020 following surgery to remove a brain tumor. They are including the memory of Loo in our wedding as she, more than anyone else, contributed to our reunion. That’s the Readers Digest version of what we feel is our remarkable love story. We are in the process of buying a house, selling both of ours, and planning a future together. We hope to keep costs way down, so we are limiting expenses in keeping our wedding very intimate and small. There will be about ten people, including the bride and groom and officiant & his wife.
