We shared a general philosophy class together and were headed the same direction afterward. I was crossing a driveway and a car nearly hit me as it pulled into it, and he made a comment about how I almost died. I made a comment back and from there we walked together to the institute building happily chatting. He felt something special from those first moments, but I was too oblivious at first to realize that us talking for an hour and a half straight was a hint of the connection we already had between us. :)
Months later with many adventures under our belts, we had fallen deeply in love. Marriage was a topic brought up often between us. Still, he succeeded in surprising me. We had a big trip with his family coming up and I was convinced that he was going to pop the question then, but little did I know he was coordinating with my family and planning to ask me the Saturday before we left. He took me to the park across the street from Our Temple, the Mount Timpanogos Temple, just as it started to snow. He took me to this stone amphitheater in its center and led me to a table with roses and a book of our favorite memories. I turned to a page with the current date and turned around to find him on one knee. "Dempsey, will you please marry me?" were his words. I replied with a nearly shouted, "Yes, of course!" And here we are.
One of our ongoing jokes as a couple is that we are the same person. We have the same favorite Disney movie, the same regular sandwich at Carls Jr, the same tastes and preferences for many things. So many, that every time we find another similarity, our response is simply: "WE." (Short for We are the samE) WE appreciate beautiful writing. WE enjoy the same music. WE want to be a we forever. (And as a bonus it's also the initials of both our last names together)
