How They Met

"I don't want anything serious." "Perfect, me either!"

August 2014 Matt and Rachel went to the same university. He first laid his eyes on her while they were both attending a floor event at the local In N Out. Everyone was standing in a circle outside introducing themselves and saying "one fun fact" about themselves. When it was Rachel's turn, she wasn't sure what to say after she stated her name until one of her floormates yelled "SHE CAN SING!" After a few seconds of them chanting "sing for us, sing for us" she caved and sang a few lines of "A Whole New World" from the movie Aladdin. Matt knew he had to talk to her. Coincidentally, they had both chosen the same major; because of this, they had a few classes together. It wasn't long before he approached her. "You're the singer, right?"

The Proposal

She had NO idea.

September 27, 2021 Matt took Rachel on a getaway to San Diego in celebration of their anniversary. He spent the whole day doing things she wanted to do. This included: soaking in the AirBnB's hot tub, going to brunch, wheeling her around the San Diego Zoo in a wheel chair (she just had surgery on her foot which kept her from walking long distances), a couples massage, a fancy dinner (John Cena was there), picking up cheesecakes, and ending the night with a glass of wine and a quick game of scrabble at M Winehouse. When they returned to the AirBnB he asked, "Are you ready for your gift?" Confused, because she thought the entire day was her gift, she answered, "Yes." "Okay, close your eyes." He led her out to the backyard, her eyes shut tight the entire time. Unbeknownst to her, he had positioned her under twinkling string lights with lit up letters spelling out "MARRY ME ❤️" behind her. "Okay, open them." As she opened her eyes, she saw him down on one knee with a ring box propped open. "Will you marry me?" She didn't know what she was expecting, but it wasn't this. She was stunned. Now she understood why he had asked her, "Are you going to paint your nails" just yesterday. She had mentioned a couple of times to him he needed to be sure they were done before he proposed. It should have been a huge give away, but even with all the subtle things that should have been a clue, she had no idea this was happening tonight. "YES," she said as she met him on his knee. He picked her up into a hug. A perfect night.
