Delvin was walking on campus headed to his Atmospheric Science class outside of MCOM, passing the Architecture building. As usual, he was not paying attention, immersed in his phone. He bumped into Erica as she was headed in the opposite direction. Erica was not immediately impressed by his charm and was very upset with him nearly running her over. Delvin was immediately taken by her beauty and apologized. Before Erica could walk off, he turned and complimented her on how cute she was when she was mad. Erica and Delvin soon would exchange information and said they would see each other around. Later that week, they ended up seeing each other from across the room at a probate for the Spring 18 line of a D9 organization. It seemed to be fate or maybe just the tiny black TTU community sticking together for both of them. Either way, the rest is history.
It was the day before Delvin graduated. Delvin, his parents (Tammi Wilson and Earnest Wilson), and Erica all went out to eat breakfast. All was well until the food came, and Delvin was unable to finish his order. Everyone at the table was concerned, but Delvin said he was just nervous about graduation and what comes after—putting all fears and concerns to rest. Later in the day, Delvin had his mother slide him the ring to have it for the Las Brisas Steakhouse in reservations in Lubbock, TX. On the way to the proposal's location, Erica began to ask so many questions but as clever as Delvin was, he was able to deflect. All in all, they were both just happy to get out of the house and enjoy an elegant night alone. Throughout this dinner, Erica began to speak about how this place is so lovely and how it's like a place someone would propose at. Delvin kept reassuring her that he was not yet going to do so. Erica had even devised a plan to tell everyone they got engaged here with a ring made of straw paper.. little did she know it was all going to happen sooner than she thought and with a not-so-straw paper ring. Delvin suggested they take a walk outside to see the waterfall right outback on the way out. Delvin began telling her what she meant to him and how thankful he was for her, and right when she let her guard down and looked away, he grabbed her hands and dropped to one knee… and the rest is history.
