We were just a few steps away from each other in residence during first year university. We both had significant others at home so we kept our relationship truly platonic, knowing all too well that there was a spark we were denying. Second year came around and we no longer had those significant others, but we built such a solid foundation in our friendship we were worried about ruining what we already had. One dreamy night in frosh week our spark overcame our desire to maintain our friendship and we had our first kiss. Although sparks didn't fly quite as quickly as we thought and we decided it was best to just remain friends. It took another 6 months to rekindle the flame, and that winter we knew we couldn't deny each other any longer. We started dating...shortly...after.
Kayla: It was a (somewhat) cold December, and I had just one more week of vacation left to take. I decided the week of December 10th sounded great so I could finally complete some of my procrastinated Christmas shopping and make another couple batches of my famous sugar cookies (ask me about my prices!). I had planned a lovely afternoon stroll with Rachael on December 11th (my now maid of honour) although it started off a bit strange after Rachael left me in the dust and texted me 15 minutes before we planned to meet said that she was already there in the meadow on the right; her brother needed a ride to school and her dog was getting antsy. I blew it off and jumped into my car winding down Martin Side Hill Road. I saw her car, but no dog and no Rachael. I made my way up to the first meadow, but still no dog and no Rachael so I thought I must have gone to the wrong one. I turned around and began walking to the next meadow... Justin: I had planned it perfectly, I texted Rachael a couple days before and requested her help; I was going to propose to Kayla. On December 11th, I swapped cars with her, and asked Rachael to text her to let her know that she was already down the hill. I drove around all morning getting organized, watching Kayla enter and exit the gym, picking up flowers; I knew I was going to nail this. I got down to the meadow 20 minutes early and found a spot just on the top of a small hill so I could see Kayla drive down. I heard the beep from locking her car, and was patiently waiting, knowing that any minute she was going to turn around that corner. Except it wasn't any minute, it was 10 minutes, and I had no idea where she went off to. Maybe she got lost, I thought. I started to become frantic thinking that my perfect plan was going awry...until I saw her. She was walking up the path, getting closer to me, looking at her phone, confused. She turned the corner... She said yes before I could even ask the question.
