In March 2020, Delia came to Minnesota from NYC to stay at her parents' house for two weeks until COVID-19 "blew over." A few months in, her sister, Molly, changed all of Delia's dating apps to be in Minnesota in the hopes of getting Delia to meet a nice Minnesotan boy and move back. Delia and Tony met on the app Hinge. While messaging, Delia lamented the cancelation of the Minnesota State Fair and so Tony invited her on a date to walk around the empty Fair grounds. The first thing Delia saw when they met was Tony liberally applying sunscreen and the first thing Tony saw was the bottom half of Delia's face because she wore big, mirrored sunglasses for most of the date. After 4 hours of walking around, they were hooked! In a world where no one was sure what was safe, they began a Victorian courtship. Delia had to ask her for parents' permission to see this boy, i.e. bring someone else into their bubble. Their second date was a picnic that ended in holding hands from across the blanket. Their third date ended up with a hug. Their fourth date ended with a kiss. Scandal! Eventually Delia did have to tell Tony that she didn't actually live in Minnesota and instead lived in NYC and that she wanted to go back. Luckily, Tony wanted to come too! After knowing each other for eight months, they packed up Tony's Honda Fit and moved halfway across the country together (sorry Molly!). They've survived apartments with sewage leaks, obnoxiously winding staircases, and bees in the walls and still want to marry each other!
In July 2024, while on a gorgeous drive along the coast in Dingle, Ireland, Delia and Tony pulled off at a scenic vista to appreciate the view (or so Delia thought). They climbed down the side of a cliff to make it to a point with a stunning view of the ocean. Two other tourists had the same idea. They climbed down and stood behind Delia and Tony, waiting for their turn to see the view. Delia was getting nervous about taking too much time at the vista and Tony was ignoring them completely, looking contemplatively out at the ocean. Eventually the other tourists gave up and left. Tony said, "I have something for you," reached into his pocket and pulled out an envelope. Tony and Delia love the show Taskmaster. It's a show where British comedians/writers do silly tasks assigned to them. They receive the tasks in a sealed letter that says what the task is, how much time they have to do it in, and when their time starts. Delia opened the letter, which was closed with an official Taskmaster seal and written on official TM paper, and it said, "Marry Tony. You have a few years. Your time starts when you say 'Yes.'" And she said yes immediately!
