Haley and I dated for about a year in college, after meeting at a work event. Going to different universities and having very different schedules led us to amicably split, but remain friends. After graduating a few years later, I moved in with friends to start my career in exercise science. It just so happens, they lived a couple miles from her childhood home! So when she graduated and went home to study for her NCLEX, we were only a couple minutes apart. When we found out, we caught up with friends and realized we had too good of a connection to let slip away again. With everything that went into our paths crossing not once, but twice, I realize we are truly soulmates and I cherish that. Haley and I essentially got back together right as I was trying out for USABS. She has been immensely supportive, and has gone above and beyond to give us quality time together. I relocated to Lake Placid NY in 2015, so she took travel nursing assignments throughout NY and VT so we could see each other in our free time. When I wanted to train with teammates at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center, she took a travel nursing job at the hospital across the street. Not only that, but she drove all of the way out there too! We lived together in an apartment in the springs, and would drive to our “work” every day bright and early. I stayed at the OPTC until she was out of work, and we would drive home together. She surprised me with a trip to Italy at the end of the last Olympic season, knowing it was a dream trip of mine, and that I could use a pick-me-up after missing out on the 2018 Olympics. Haley and I have so many special memories together, and I’m excited/grateful to make it a lifetime together come June 5th!
