Delaney and Joe both grew up in California but in two separate cities -Joe in San Diego and Delaney in Fresno. They crossed paths at the college they both attended: Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where they were both involved in Greek life. After nearly making it through college without meeting, they finally met at an exchange event in 2016 that neither of them had planned to attend – in fact, they almost didn't go at all. However, they ended up meeting within the first 5 minutes of the event. All of their doubts melted away as they bonded over music, being "old" at 21, and not wanting to be there - even though they wouldn't have rather been anywhere else at that point. After an eventful night of breaking sorority rules and a minor run-in with the police, Joe managed to never ask Delaney for her number. Thinking he had let the perfect girl slip through his fingers, he did some sleuthing on Facebook and found who he thought was Delaney without even knowing her last name, and sent her a message. Delaney and Joe never seem to agree on the duration that Joe had to wait for a response from her, but apparently (and factually) it was not more than a week before she saw Joe's paragraph message and responded with her number saying she would like to see him again. If you ask Joe he will tell you that it was more like 3 weeks, maybe even a month! The rest is history - their first date was in Morro Bay shortly afterward, where Joe proceeded to explain the physics behind the hues of red, orange, and pink in the sunset they were admiring, to which Delaney responded with a kiss (probably to shut him up). After almost a year of dating, they reached a critical point in their relationship - Joe was approaching graduation while Delaney still had another two quarters left. There was no chance long-distance was going to get in the way of their blooming relationship. They committed to making it work. Joe landed a job back in San Diego, which kicked off their long-distance relationship. After many late-night 6+ hour drives between the Central Coast and So-Cal, the end was in sight with Delaney's acceptance into her Master's program at San Diego State. This was when Joe and Delaney knew things were serious; she was making significant life decisions based on her proximity to him (and more importantly the California burritos). They moved into their house together in Carlsbad in 2021 and created a home that saw three Jennings brothers living together with them at one point. Needless to say, Delaney somehow persevered. In 2022, they welcomed home their newest, furriest member of the household, their dog Clover. In 2023, Joe (with the help of little Clover) asked Delaney to spend the rest of her life with him in the same place they had their first date, Morro Bay.
