Our story is a little bit different than your classic Disney princess fairytale. First, how we met is so GEN Z. Alexander went to college with my high school best friend before he left to join the U.S. Coast Guard. Fast forward a few years, and I’m getting ready to be shipped out to basic training. My bestie posted on her Instagram wishing me good luck, grabbing Alexander’s attention, leading him to follow-request me. Furthermore, he slid into my DM’s giving me advice on how to survive the rigorous camp, starting the conversation between us. I distinctly remember sitting at my kitchen table with my little sister, Abby, the night before leaving for MEPS when I exchanged the follow. I recall mentioning to my sister how I have a feeling I was going to marry a Boatswain Mate (basically manifesting LOL). The two of us kept talking (flirting) back and forth despite the challenges of basic, a-school, unit transfers, ex-girlfriends/boyfriends, dry dock (iykyk), four time zones, and 4,460 miles. No matter what, we always had each other (sappy I know). Due to our military lifestyle being spontaneous, chaotic, uncertain, and in a constant state of oblivion, we decided to take advantage of our irrevocable connection and wanted to see where it would take us. We got married in Juneau, Alaska on the 12th of February 2021 (if you didn’t already know, surprise!). We kept it a secret from our family and friends for a long time for our safety and mental health. We appreciate everyone who understood why we did this, didn’t judge or shame us, and supported us thus far for the decisions we’ve made. Although we did not do things the traditional way, we wouldn’t change our story for anything. (Like common, how cool is it that we can say we got married in Alaska!) We both have an overwhelming love for the outdoors, mountains, oceans, and all animals that co-exist with us. When we first said “I Do” it incorporated all our favorite things. Behind us was a beautiful view of the Mendenhall Glacier sandwiched between towering mountains, the rushing Gastineau Channel filled with boats and orcas (my favorite animal), encompassed by the winter snow, while simultaneously wearing our Bean boots and taking a celebratory shot of Fireball (classy). We would love to share a similar celebration with you all while Alex and I exchange our vows on our four-year anniversary in Wyoming (eloping again, but this time the "right" way!). With love, Alexander & Nicole
