Despite attending the same high school and sharing mutual friends, Dek and Tommi's paths never crossed until they both found themselves back in Winston Salem in 2016. After connecting on Instagram, Dek took the initiative to invite Tommi for a drink. Initially met with silence, Dek's persistence paid off when Tommi eventually agreed to that elusive first date hanging out on the tailgate at High Rock Lake. Dek loved Tommi's strong personality and wit, while Tommi loved how easy going and calm Dek was. Two weeks after their initial meeting, Dek relocated to Washington, DC. Despite the distance, they made efforts to see each other monthly. Tommi flew to visit him often, fostering their love for exploring new foods, adventures, and even skydiving for Dek's birthday. As the pandemic unfolded, Dek's remote work allowed him to return home to Winston Salem. Navigating life together, they purchased their first home in October 2022. Dek and Tommi, along with Tyson, Tommi's dog, formed a close-knit family. Which lead to Dek's heartfelt proposal at the very spot on High Rock Lake where their journey began, presenting Tommi with his grandmother's diamond with Tyson by his side.
