Deirdre and Victor met in Washington Park in Cincinnati when their mutual friend, Bryan O., brought Victor as a sub for a kickball game. Victor was introduced to Deirdre (and everyone), and enthusiastically joined in. Deirdre remembers Victor shouting “D! Run! Run!” as he successfully coached her from 1st to 3rd base. She remembers this so vividly because he jumped head first into calling her “D” (vs “Deirdre”) and bossing around a stranger on a team that he did not belong to. This stuck out to her. Victor remembers Deirdre being the life of the party with a great sense of humor...and the slap on the butt she gave him after a successful 1-2-3 inning on the mound. She says it was just part of the game but to him it was a sign that she was authentically herself no matter who she was with. Many games and post-game buckets of beers into the season, something shifted in their kickball friendship (something about Victor playing License to Ill on vinyl and knowing every word to every song) (something about Deirdre having License to Ill on vinyl), and they haven’t looked back since. And while they both had their own worries about the age gap between them, those faded as fast as they fell in love and they moved in together a little over a year after their first kickball game. 4 years later, Victor got on his knee and proposed to Deirdre right where he once base coached her, and then surprised her with a room full of friends and family at Rhinehaus where they had shared many post-kickball Buds together. Another success - she said yes.
