Question

What to Wear?

Answer

The dress code is Sunday best and to please dress modestly. For women, this means a dress that reaches at least to the knees, covers the shoulders, and is not open back, form fitting, or low cut in the front. For men, modesty involves wearing dress pants, a dress shirt, a tie, and a jacket optional. A suit is great! More info // http://www.olvrc.com/reference/documents/Modesty.Pius.XI.pdf

Question

What is the Nuptial Veil?

Answer

If you watch the mass online or you come in person, you will see a nuptial veil (or a “care cloth”) held over the bride and groom during the Nuptial Blessing. This has been done since the very beginning of the Catholic Church, and we were so blessed to carry on this tradition! Question

About the Traditional Latin Mass

Answer

Our wedding will be celebrated at Mater Dei Catholic Church during the rite of Matrimony which will take place immediately before a Mass in the extraordinary form. Everyone is welcome to attend the Mass, regardless of if you are Catholic or not. However, we (and the Church) ask, if you are not Catholic, to not come forward to receive communion. If you have been away from the Church for a while, we would invite you to receive the sacrament of Reconciliation before the Mass. While this sacrament can be difficult, it also is a great source of grace to receive the unfathomable mercy of God. If you have never been to a Latin Mass I have compiled a few notes for you here on this Google Doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1S8Bb5Numl4HsGpjkIw540xsRTq3VdIa2KBUeDxVAeh8/edit?usp=sharing

Question

The Church's Position on Dancing

Answer

We want to be in line with what the Catholic Church teaches in all areas of faith and morals, so we will not be having dancing at our wedding reception. Believe it or not, the Church has the official position that dancing among the unmarried is to be discouraged, so we don't want to host a reception that encourages it! This is something we both recently learned about, and it is not something that is widely known. We will be having other things to do that are fun instead of dancing! Here is a link where you can learn more! Link: https://www.stjoanarc.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/The-Official-Position-of-the-Church-on-Dances.pdf

Question

Alcohol at the Reception

Answer

The purpose of a wedding reception is to celebrate the incredible Sacrament of Matrimony that one has just received, so our goal is to plan a wedding reception that gives glory to God. We will have a few brunch-y drinks at the reception and all adults of age will get three drink tickets! We can't wait to toast to the goodness of God and celebrate with everyone. "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." - 1 Corinthians 10:31
