Austin & Deidre plan to arrive Tuesday 9/16 and have an itinerary put together for hikes/activities we plan on doing Tues-Sat, so if you're interested in checking this out to see if anything interests you, please message Deidre/Austin and Deidre will add your Gmail to the Google Sheet! Feel free to join as much or as little of what Deidre has on there :)
Ask Deidre/Austin to add you to the Google Sheet w/ all information on Glacier!
Austin & Deidre will be doing the Many Glacier Boat Tour hosted by Glacier Park Boat Company on Wednesday September 17 (last day for this one) at 11 AM. Lake McDonald Boat Tour runs through September 25th if you wish to do that one! You can also rent kayaks, paddleboards, etc to have an alternative activity to hiking.
This is the ICONIC road that goes through Glacier NP. It takes ~2 hours to drive the full 50 miles without stopping, but there are several stop offs worth checking out though!
I would suggest downloading the All Trails app, it's very helpful to check out info on tons of hikes! You also will need Bear Spray if you plan to hike, it's Grizzly country. Lake McDonald- can walk around as much or as little of the lake as you want, it's a very famous lake right inside the west entrance of Glacier, it's supposed to be very clear water! Trail of the Cedars (easy, flat, less than 1 mile roundtrip), continues to Avalanche Lake, another well known lake in Glacier (would be a total of 6 miles roundtrip).
The famous Red Buses (vintage 1930s buses) serve as a way to see and learn more about Glacier National Park (I believe they're open top). Each one seats 16 people and sells out quickly!
Cute town near Glacier NP. Has fun shops, restaurants, and Whitefish Lake.
The CSKT Bison Range is a historical wildlife conservation area home to roughly 350 bison. It was originally founded in 1908 as the National Bison Range on land belonging to the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CSKT). In recognition of their historical claim to both the land and the bison herd, the Bison Range was officially restored to the CSKT by Congress in 2020 as part of Public Law 116-260. As of 2022, the Bison Range is now fully owned and managed by the CSKT Natural Resource Department. Visitors to the Bison Range can enjoy a self-directed driving tour along two scenic drives. Our main tour road is Red Sleep Drive, which goes over Red Sleep Mountain. Combined with the lower Prairie Drive, it forms a 19 mile, 2 hour loop. Red Sleep Drive is only open during the summer (May-Oct) and has two walking trails. The drive includes scenic views of the valley as well as possibly spotting bears, birds, and other interesting species.
