As many of you will be visiting a Sikh temple for the first time, here are a few guidelines to help you prepare. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out – we're happy to help :)
Question

Temple Dress Code

Answer

Head Covering: both men and women must cover their heads inside the temple. Women can bring a scarf or shawl. Men can bring a bandana. Some will be provided. Women’s Attire: dresses, skirts, pants, or leggings are fine. If wearing a dress, please ensure it isn’t too revealing and covers your knees. Comfort is key as you'll be sitting on the floor during the ceremony.

Question

Temple Courtesy

Answer

It is important to remove your shoes upon entering the temple. You’re welcome to keep your socks on or go barefoot, whichever you prefer. Upon arrival, please be sure to wash your hands, and we kindly ask that you wash them again before and after eating. All food at the temple is nut-free and vegetarian. You’ll be offered a light snack before the ceremony, and a meal will be provided afterwards. Please note that during the ceremony, guests will sit on the floor. However, limited seating is available for those who may find sitting on the floor difficult. There are no assigned seats at the temple, but women should sit on the left and men on the right. During the ceremony, guests will be offered prasad—a sweet treat made from flour, ghee, sugar, and water. It is served warm and is considered a blessing. While you are not obliged to take it, we highly recommend trying it as it’s delicious! Smoking must be done off the premises, near the sidewalk. Thank you for helping us respect the traditions of the temple as we celebrate together!

Question

Confirm Your Attendance

Answer

Please kindly RSVP by April 26th, 2025. The sooner you let us know if you’ll be attending, the better!

Question

Jago

Answer

A Jago is a traditional pre-wedding celebration in Punjabi and Sikh culture. Family and friends gather to sing, dance, eat and celebrate with the bride and groom's families. The Jago will take place in the evening on July 23rd, 2025. If you're invited, you’ll find it listed in your events to RSVP.

Question

Haldi & Mehndi

Answer

The Haldi ceremony is a pre-wedding ritual where turmeric paste is applied to the bride and groom by family members. It's believed to bring good luck, purify, and beautify the couple. The Mehndi ceremony is a pre-wedding tradition where henna designs are applied to the bride and guests! The ceremony symbolizes good luck and blessings for the couple's married life. These events will take place on July 24th, 2025. If you're invited, you’ll find it listed in your events to RSVP.

Question

Kids

Answer

We love kids, but we’ve decided to make it an adults-only wedding. We hope you take this as an opportunity to enjoy a day just for the grown-ups and celebrate with us!

Question

Gifts

Answer

The most important thing is having you with us to celebrate our big day! However, since we’ve been living together for quite some time already, we don’t have a traditional registry. If you'd like to give a gift, we would appreciate cash contributions. We plan to use it for our first trip as Mr. and Mrs. (our honeymoon) or to save for our next home. We thank you in advance <3

For all the days along the way
