COVID couldn't stop these lovebirds from tying the knot on their originally planned Wedding date in April 2021! The new Mr. and Mrs. O'Connell were wed in a private Mass in Dan's hometown of Albany. While the celebration was small that day, the craic was mighty thanks to friends and family who made the day unforgettable! Sheena and Dan are excited to host the reception they dreamed of (now three years in the making) in Derry on April 23, 2022.
Dan & Sheena met in Chicago during their orientation as Lasallian Volunteers in July of 2015. The couple were introduced by a mutual friend and hit it off right away! Although they spent their volunteer year in two different cities (Chicago for Sheena and Pawtucket for Dan) the two visited each other frequently throughout that first year. Their first date was at a 1916 Easter Rising commemoration where Sheena and the Mullan's awoke the rebel inside of Dan and the two haven't looked back since!
With sore heads on the day after an epic family wedding in Co. Derry, Dan knew it was go-time! The setting had been planned for years in advance. Back in 2016, during Dan's first trip to Ireland, Sheena gave him the grand tour of the Foreglen and Dungiven - where her parents grew up and where Sheena was born. There is a special little house up a lane and across a field where Dan knew he would someday return to pop the question. With a huge assist from Sheena's cousin, Sheena was unknowingly dragged into position and the rest is history!
