Imagine it is 2016 and your sister is dating a boy named Christian and he has a decent-sized, tight-knit friend group of boys. Your sister goes on and on about how you should date this boy named DJ because he is so sweet and hilarious. You continue to tell her no because you already have a boyfriend and are coming up on your one-year anniversary with him. However, at Fort, you are in Mrs.Little's French class while DJ is in Mrs.Miller's English class across the hall from you. Each time you go out in the hallway to do work, use the bathroom, or run an errand, DJ somehow magically appears in the hallway too. Most of the time his excuse is that he is "switching out his library book," (for the 2000th time that week) or he has to use the bathroom. He starts picking on you telling you to "get back to class" and that you should get his number from Christian because he knows your sister is Savannah. You keep telling him no and picking on him too for at least a month. One night when you break up with your boyfriend you are in the Armstrong's parking lot about to leave when you ask Christian what DJ's number is because you just need a laugh. You get it and begin texting him about how sad you are and he continues to tell you how beautiful you are and that you deserved all the love in the world. The next day, your family is going to the annual Maple Festival when it gets snowed out and you instead go to Walmart to get groceries. There, you see Christian's mom Sharon and she asks if she can take Savannah back home with her. Savannah asks you if you want to go as well and tells you that DJ is going to be there too. You decide to go and end up on the Alford couch with DJ while he tries his damnest to teach you how to play Xbox but instead, you end up watching "The Good Dinosaur" and taking a nap on his shoulder. He begins playing Xbox again and you start kissing his cheeks to make him mess up when he turns and you have your first kiss with this boy you started talking to yesterday. It is now after Spring Break and you go back to school where DJ greets you on Monday with wildflowers he picked because you told him no one has ever done that for you. You begin meeting all of his friends (most of which you grew up next to or rode the bus with so you already know them) and hanging out with them in the cafeteria in the mornings or in the 100 hallway. Later that week, you have a softball game and you tell DJ to come watch the game because you're pretty sure you're going to win. While you practice, DJ walks up to meet your parents and confuses them because they had no clue you were even talking to another boy. They tell you later that he is respectful and sweet and they seem to like him. Then, you remember that Easter is this weekend March 26 when you have plans to go to your Ohma's house for lunch, to dye eggs, and to play football. You convince your parents to let him come and DJ convinces his dad and stepmom to let him go. By this time you had already had your first kiss with him, Facetimed every night, and were talking about marriage before he even asked you to be his girlfriend. You are dying eggs with your cousins when DJ asks you to come outside with him. He sits you down and says he had a whole speech plan but truly just wants you to be his girlfriend. You are over the moon that you finally have a boyfriend that loves and appreciates you and your family. You both begin to play football with your family where he learns you are really good at throwing a football, and he falls and rips his pants right at the crotch. Ask Jenna and she will tell you how memorable that moment was. I hope you imagined it as well as I remember it (: From there I met his amazing family members and had plenty of holidays and vacations with each. Fast forward through our graduations, me going to college, his jobs, and us moving into the garage apartment in my mom and dad's backyard. We are now engaged and planning a wedding two years from the date he proposed to me.
