It's a relatively classic case— we met at work. We’d been friends for several years so we really got to know each other before anything romantic formed. I always thought Derek was such a great person to be around, easy to laugh with and always up to help with a project. He didn’t know a lot of people in Phoenix so I started inviting him to join me and some friends; a new bond formed fast. He was immediately welcomed with open arms by my family and friends so I knew I had found something special in Derek. In June of 2021, we set East to meet his family, starting in Maine then Cape Cod. The first night, he asked me to marry him in front of the Portland Head Lighthouse. His brother, Dustin, and sister-in-law, Tracy, were there to capture the special moment; It was magical and something I'll always cherish. Derek is the beckon of light I've looked for all my life so it was a very easy “YES!” once I realized he was serious and not just being a goofball. We live in downtown Phoenix with our Australian Shepard, Pug, and two kitties. We love to bike around town, hang with friends at the park or pool, go to shows, and are looking forward to traveling more together. The love we have for each other couldn't be what it is without the love we are surrounded by every day from our family and friends. We are so lucky to have found each other and can't wait to merge our families. Thank you so much for all your love and support, we adore you beyond words.
We first met with a hello and an awkward wave at my office. I was about 3 years deep into my MWU tenure. She was the 3rd campus photographer I’d be working with. She was visiting campus to look at her new studio/workspace, and I was doing my everyday work stuff. Once hired, her office was quite literally in a broom closet, so I could imagine why she might want to visit my, more spacious, office. Either way, we talked pretty much every day. She would tell me about her excursions with her friends, and I would tell her about… like… my daily trips to the dog park or life at home or whatever. I didn’t really know why she always wanted hear my boring stories, but she always listened. Eventually, she started inviting me to hang out with her and her friends. I started to realize that she really cared about me, and I really cared about her too. Things progressed, and here we are today. We had planned out a trip to New England for our summer vacation 2021, and that May, I ordered a ring and had it sent to Dustin and Tracy’s house in Kittery, ME. From my perspective, the suspense had been killing me ever since I clicked “place order,” so I decided to go for it on night one. I didn’t even look at the finished ring beforehand. The plan worked, or maybe it worked too well because she had to ask me if it was real before she said yes.
