The Meet-up

2006

We met through a mutual friend giving us a ride home from school. Robert was sitting in the back seat quiet with a smile on his face. We did not know each other, so my goal was not to talk to him. However, halfway through the ride we started making small talk, found out that we both were sophomores, and he went to Blake High School, and I went to Hillsborough High School. By the time we realized it, we were pulling up to my house. When Robert saw where I lived, he mentioned that he lived a few blocks away. He stated that he would like to be friends, and I told him I was not interested and proceeded to get out of the car. He was persistent in "just being a friend," I told him I no, thank you as I went into my house. It was not long (like a week or two later) before Robert had come to my house and knocked on the door and asked my grandparents if they were okay with him being my friend. We became friends from that day forward.

Separation

2006-2011

Throughout our time of living down the street from each other, we had a childlike friendship through High School. Every time we saw each other he would have the biggest smile on his face and his hands out for a hug, I could not stand it, his hugs lasted too long! Even after they moved from down the street, and after graduation, we remained mutual friends, and NO there were no sparks, butterflies, NOTHING on my end. Rob, however, always stated that he was interested and wanted to pursue more than friendship. I had my own situation going on, with my first-born son Ismael. Rob had plenty of situations he needed to tend to, including his first-born daughter Kimora. One day visiting him at his mom’s house he told me he was going off to college in Tallahassee, a tiny part of me was sad because I would talk to Rob about anything/everything. That was the last time we had talked or seen each other.

Friendship started this Love

2014-"Proposal"

While driving, I was passing Rob's mom street, thinking, “dang I have not seen Rob in a while I wonder if his mom still lives over here.” *Phone rings* my mom and grandma are excitedly explaining that a man just came to her house looking for me. I was completely at a lost, and kept asking, “What man, Who?” They were just yelling the boy who lived down the street, he was like your best friend, the black boy who would come here for you. LOL! I was like “who, ROB?!” And they both said, “Yeah that’s him!” He left his number and said for you to call him. (Coincidence? Fate?) Fast forward years later we had been communicating almost every day as well as hanging out more and that turn into dates, dates turned into "aww ya'll so cute together", which turned into...Rob saying, "Just so you know we been in a relationship this whole time!" I don't spend money on women, go on dates and we are not together! *SMH*. The proposal took place during my surprise 30th birthday party, I was dancing with our daughter, and everyone was yelling "Look, Borah!" "Turn around!" I turned and Rob was on one knee, and I hyperventilated into tears!! Rob claims he knew from the very beginning that we were going to be together forever, I'm pretty sure that's how I ended up with a baby 2 years in and another one 4 years later! A friendship started this journey of Love, and the Love of our friendship is destined to continue. #ItsanRandBwedding
