Jacksonville is a little big city.  If you are traveling from out of town, any side of town is good for hotels.  You can get to any side of the city within 20 min and sometimes less. With hotel accommodations it makes it easy to be able to enjoy the whole city, what ever side of town you stay on.  We live in the 32210 area code but if you want to stay on or near the beach or surrounding area, you are close.  I would not recommend staying on the north side of Jacksonville unless it is at the airport.
