Question

What is a paebaek?

Answer

It is an intimate ancient korean ceremony where newlyweds pay respect to their families. Family members will take their turn sitting in front of a table filled with various edibles to receive their bow from the couple. The bride, 신부 (pronounced "shin-boo"), and groom, 신랑 (pronounced "shin-lang"), will serve rice wine to each set of parents and relatives after their bow. In turn, the elders offer the couple words of wisdom and blessings. As a public display of the groom’s strength and happiness, the groom piggy backs his bride around the table, which concludes the paebaek ceremony.
