It was a cold, icy evening in the Bluegrass and it couldn’t have been a more perfect scenario for what was about to unfold. But let’s back up to how we got to that first date. Paul and I had both been selected to go to the Tops Magazine Singles in the City event. That was suppose to be on February 18th,2021- the actual day we met. However in typical fashion, Kentucky winter weather had other plans and the event went from being postponed to cancelled indefinitely. In the meantime, neither of us knew the other was going to the event. Enter Bumble, yes we know a dating app! I was curious what was out there and had been excited to meet Paul, since he had made it into the magazine ad for the event. Well sure enough after being on the app for all of about a week, no dates were had and I had found the lustrous Paul Miller. After swiping right, we connected, but I was too chicken to start the conversation. After a couple of days I finally did and needless to say that was just the beginning. We talked about the Tops Magazine event and how we could go and not have that awkward first coffee date. As I mentioned earlier, the event was eventually canceled indefinitely. Finally Paul asked me out on an actual date at the Merrick Inn in Lexington, Kentucky. Everything was going great until I pulled my car into snow/ice bank trying to park. I blame the nerves. I then get out of my car only to slip and fall on the ice coated parking lot. Paul sends a text asking if I’m ok, he was sending someone to look for me. Me, embarrassed, freaking out about my car, arrive in the restaurant or should I say slid into the restaurant to a host greeting me asking if I was there to meet Mr. Miller. Flushed and flustered I arrive to the table and am greeted with a glass of a nice Cab. We talked all night, nearly shut down the place. When I finally felt comfortable enough, I told him what had happened in the parking lot, he laughed and said, “I’ll get your car out”. After dinner we were walking to my car that I already knew wasn’t moving. We both nearly fall again in the parking lot! He tried a couple times to get it out to no avail, and finally I agreed to let him drive me home. The next day, he reached out to me to tell me he had gone back to the Merrick Inn and had shoveled my car out for me. The rest is history!
