The Church of St. Sophia in Ohrid dates back to the 11th century exhibiting characteristic features of Byzantine basilicas, with a central nave flanked by aisles and crowned by a dome and a sturdy stone wall and intricate brickwork exterior. The church is adorned with breathtaking frescoes. These frescoes depict scenes from the Bible, as well as portraits of saints and angels. In addition to its frescoes, St. Sophia also features impressive mosaic work, particularly in its floors.

According to recent excavations by Macedonian archaeologists, Samuel’s Fortress was built on the place of an earlier fortification, dated to the 4th century BC, which was likely built by King Philip II of Macedon. During the late 900s, King Samuil restored the fortress by rebuilding it into a medieval style stronghold which still stands as is today. Within the fortress walls, there are networks of pathways and chambers that includes Plaošnik an archaeological site (located 250 meters below Samuel's Fortress). Founded in the 10th century by the medieval Macedonian St. Naum of Ohrid. Visitors to St. Naum can explore the monastery complex, which includes a church, living quarters, and a courtyard surrounded by lush gardens. The main church, dedicated to the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel, features exquisite frescoes and architectural details dating back to the Byzantine era. One of the highlights of a visit to St. Naum is the nearby natural springs, known as the Springs of St. Naum.
