David and Deanna first crossed paths in Atlanta, Georgia—while David was busy losing a battle against the city’s infamous humidity. They met doing something they both love: enjoying a good craft beer. Afterward, they wandered along the Atlanta Beltline, already plotting their next few dates. A second, third, and fourth date quickly followed before David had to head to Raleigh, North Carolina, for his next rotation. Despite her already long commute to work, Deanna made the 4+ hour drive on weekends to meet David in places like Asheville, NC, and Hilton Head, SC. They didn’t know it then, but those trips marked the beginning of a lifetime of adventures together. In March 2020, Deanna flew to Colorado to quarantine with David and his family, where she picked up a few Polish phrases and explored the Rocky Mountains. Not long after, they moved into their own apartment in Colorado, where Deanna earned her MSW degree and David completed his psychiatry residency program before securing a spot in child and adolescent fellowship. Their next chapter took them to Wichita, Kansas, for three years—where they grew in their careers, made wonderful friends, and adopted two beautiful cats (the big one and the orange one). Who knows where their next adventure will lead?
