You will not need a visa to travel to Colombia with a valid US passport, however please make sure your passport is valid for a minimum of 6 months after your travel dates to Colombia!

Answer

Cartagena is in a tropical area, so you can expect the weather to be warm. It typically does not rain much during this season, however the evenings can be a little breezy. Medellin is known for its temperate climate, and Santa Marta is also in a tropical area, so bring clothes for warm weather with a light jacket. Please note that if you travel to Bogotá, the weather can be chilly year-round, so bring a warm jacket if you plan to travel there!

Yes! Cartagena in particular is very safe, especially in the historical city centre. Please note that there are certain areas in Bogotá that are not advised to travel to, however if you stay within the touristic areas, it is generally safe. As always when traveling, be mindful of your belongings and valuables. But rest assured, the people of Colombia are very nice and friendly, and many of them are able to communicate in English.

At the moment, the currency exchange rate is approximately $1 USD = $4,000 COP (Colombian Peso). Nearly all establishments accept major US credit cards, however it is always advisable to bring some cash with you, just in case.

We highly recommend you take advantage of visiting Cartagena for our wedding by extending your vacation by several days, depending on your availability! We recommend the following cities and itineraries: Medellin - 3 days (1 hour flight) Guatapé - 2 days (2-3 hour drive from Medellin each way) Bogotá - 2 days (2 hour flight) Santa Marta - 2 days (1 hour flight) *Please note that these cities are a very short flight from Cartagena. We do not recommend ground transportation as it will take much longer to access these cities by car/bus (with the exception of Guatapé from Medellin)
