Dean and Jamie met how most people in their 30's meet these days.... online! After exchanging a couple of texts back and forth, one day Jamie decided to make a bold move and called Dean on the phone. Thankfully, he answered and they talked for 3 hours! They immediately bonded with their common knowledge of concrete (Dean has a degree in construction management while Jamie grew up in a construction family), their passion for travel, good food and open communication. Sparks flew on their first date at Fire Rock Grill and Dean held Jamie's hand while walking her to her car at the end of the evening. Jamie then left the next day to visit her sister in North Carolina for several days and the two kept in communication every day and have each day since.
Jamie was supposed to work New Years Eve day and unexpectedly got the day off (which Dean was thrilled about as he already had the day off). The two of them decided to spend the day exploring their city of Grand Rapids, MI. Before leaving the house, Dean quickly threw the ring in his coat pocket and thought to himself "If the time is right, I'll propose today." Late afternoon, they ended up in Grand Haven visiting Lake Michigan. The beach was quiet and beautiful with the water rolling in, frozen sand and just the right amount of snow. It was chilly right by the water so time was spent cuddling close while walking and reminiscing about what 2020 meant to them. While standing on large boulders by the pier, forehead to forehead sharing "a moment", Dean got down on his knee and asked Jamie to marry him. Of course she said yes!
