Deana had just traded her sun-kissed Puerto Rican beaches for the brisk charm of Washington, D.C. She was still reeling from her first snowbird experience, trying to figure out if “winter” meant “cozy” or just “really cold.” Meanwhile, in Troy, Devin was living his best life as a scratch golfer and working hard to take over the family business. Both were social butterflies, flitting around their friend circles while patiently waiting for their love stories to begin. They’d crossed paths a few times over the years but never really connected—until July 4th weekend at Lake George. Amidst the laughter and splashing, the back of the boat became a bit too crowded. Deana, seeking a little more space (and a less cramped view), gracefully migrated to the front, where she found Devin, who was enjoying the sunshine as if it were a personal gift from the universe. As they chatted, Devin couldn't help but think, “Damn, I think this girl is really into me.” Little did he know, Deana was simply marveling at the spaciousness of the front of the boat. But as the weekend progressed, they shared boat rides, meals, and laughter; suddenly, the boat felt a lot less like a vessel and more like a love boat. After a particularly competitive game of pool (which Deana did not win, by the way), she decided to make Devin a friendship bracelet. It was a sweet gesture, and she didn’t realize it would soon mean so much more. As the weekend drew to a close, Deana and Devin knew they'd have another encounter in a just a few weeks at their friend's wedding. As Devin pulled away, Deana called after him, “Save me a dance!” He drove off, grinning like he’d just sunk a hole-in-one. The wedding they both anticipated soon arrived, and the chemistry was undeniable. They were practically inseparable, knowing they’d have to navigate the long-distance relationship that loomed ahead. But they were determined. Devin invited Deana to a wedding in Troy over Labor Day weekend even though he didn’t get invited with a plus one, thankfully they made space for her anyways. That same weekend he introduced her to his parents—talk about a fast track! From there, weekends turned into a dance of back-and-forth trips between Troy and D.C., filled with new adventures in Florida, Colorado, Martha’s Vineyard, and even another snowbird experience in Puerto Rico, this time together. After a visit to her parents in November, Deana casually asked, “Are you going to ask me to be your girlfriend soon?” Devin, in his typical guy fashion, replied, “I assumed you already were!” Classic Devin. As they navigated their whirlwind romance, Deana knew that this was the kind of love she’d been waiting for. A year of long distance later, she made the leap and relocated back to New York to be with him. Seven months after that bold move, Devin took her hand and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. “YES!” she exclaimed, her heart bursting with joy. Now, they stand on the brink of their next great adventure: marriage. With plans to celebrate their love story surrounded by friends and family, Deana and Devin are ready to say “I do,” proving that sometimes, all you need is a little space on a boat and a sprinkle of serendipity to find your forever love. And who knows? Maybe they’ll find a way to fit in a few more games of pool along the way!
