We met at Biola University in the fall of 2015. It was Dayna's first semester and my last. I first saw her in the cafeteria when Luka toddled by to get her food. I stopped as I was captured by how cute she was. At that point, I looked up and saw Dayna walking close behind her and was even more perplexed by Dayna's beauty. I became very interested in the two of them. After a couple more run-ins with my jaw dropped and lack of composure, we officially met on a Sunday night after a worship service at Biola. I managed to muster up the courage to walk over as she was playing with Luka and ask her, "Whose beautiful little girl is this?" She responded that Luka was her daughter. I reached my hand out and introduced myself as DB and Dayna responded back, "My name is DB." Mind you, she had a heavy Trinidad accent (which at the time I didn't know) so I thought she was simply making fun of me. I didn't believe her for a second but she convinced me that was her actual name. I sheepishly and awkwardly said, "Oh, well okay. See you later," and walked away.
It only took me three months to let the first "I love you" slip out of my mouth. Our relationship grew quickly, although we truly didn't move forward without communicating with each other and praying to God for His answers. Dayna and I experienced much in a short amount of time, but something that we founded our relationship on was that we weren't playing any games. It was about eight months of officially dating when we decided we wanted to take the next step. I was nervous and although I didn't have the means to propose to her, through massive leaps of faith and trust in God, I was able to surprise her and propose. I sent her and Luka on a "girls weekend" down to La Jolla, San Diego. I wanted to do something special for her. I asked specific family and friends, who weren't able to come, to write her a letter so she could read them after I proposed (hoping she would say "yes"). Together with some friends, who had walked closely with us throughout our relationship, I drove down to surprise her just in time for the sunset. Dayna and Luka were walking down by the water's edge where a mason jar was waiting for them, filled with sea shells and a small note from me that read, "Look up". Peaking from behind a rock, I walked out and met them, got down on one knee and asked, "Will you marry me?" It was followed with, "Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes!"
