We have to thank our future sister-in-law, Emma, for hosting the summer night BBQ where we first met. The night featured beer pong, dancing and sitting out by the fire. We knew we had a connection when we were chatting about our mutual hatred of salad, but sparks started flying when one of us got up on a chair and started dancing to LMFAO's "I'm Sexy and I Know It" (let's be honest, we all know which one of us that was).
Turns out, Laura is super gullible. Mike started by casually mentioning he had entered a raffle at work for a weekend cottage in Lunenburg, NS. "Oh my god, that would be awesome. We were just talking about taking a weekend trip there!" - Laura (oblivious). After "winning" the "raffle" a few weeks later, we were supposed to set off after work on a Friday but Mike called saying he was stuck at work and would have to meet Laura there. The cottage was a cozy two bedroom house right off of the ocean on a little island. Laura, dressed to the nines in bare face and a baggy sweatshirt and expecting the property owner, opened the front door of the cottage to candles and rose petals. Her first thought was "Oh this is awkward" thinking the owner had set it up as a surprise for his visitors and now she's there alone. Things finally sunk in as she heard their favourite song playing and saw Mike standing in the living room next to a huge bay window overlooking the water. Mike, full of nerves and emotion (crying like a baby), completely forgot the speech he had prepared but managed to get the words out. We spent the weekend by the ocean, celebrating with friends around a campfire, just like the night we had first met.
