Matron of Honor
Chequita Winters and I go back a long way as a matter of fact, we go way back to the fall of 1978 where we met at Whitsitt Elementary School. We extended our friendship through Jr High and High School. Although Chequita graduated from Overton High and I graduated from Glencliff High, we never lost contact. We always did fun things together. We can always depend on each other. We have laughed and cried together but always have been there for one another. I am so proud of Chequita and all of her accomplishments. The word of God says "he who finds a wife, finds a good thing". Mr. Gary Dawson, you have found the Best!
Best Man
I am the father of the groom, Che’s future father-in-law and the Best Man. God has blessed me with a wonderful son. I will never forget the day he was born or how I felt when I first saw him. As a baby he looked just like me and many say that’s still true today. On November 24, 1976 at 2:57am, I became a father. Gary has always respected me as his father and I have always respected him as my son. At the core of our relationship is our strong belief in God. Together we serve as deacons at church. I believe God has blessed Gary with Chequita. She is a beautiful person and a strong, Christian woman. On May 18, my wife and I will celebrate our wedding anniversary. We hope and pray God will bless their union with his love and guidance as he has richly blessed ours for 45 years.
Maid of Honor
I have known Chequita since college. We met each other in a music class at MTSU. We were college roommates for many years and are very close friends. We have been on spontaneous trips, vacations, celebrated birthdays, and shared memories along the way. Chequita has a sweet, loving, and caring personality. She is a true friend when you need one.

I am Tomeka Cherry, Chequita’s cousin from Savannah. I am 44yrs old with a 12yr old son named Ryleigh. I just recently bought my first home here in Nashville. Chequita’s grandmother (Mama Chaney) and my grandmother were sisters. Chequita would always come to Savannah for the summer and that’s when we would spend time together. We would have singing competitions or act like we were models. Her Aunt Dee and Aunt Elaine would dress us up and put makeup on us!! While in Savannah, we would ride our bikes or hang out in Aunt Chaney’s backyard. She would sometimes make homemade ice cream. There were a few times, only on special occasions, I would get to take a ride with Aunt Chaney to Nashville. Che and I would have so much fun together. Those were the good old days and we had so much fun!!

I am Gary’s sister and the future sister-in-law to “Che” as she is affectionately called. We have welcomed Che to the Dawson family with open arms and a warm heart. I have volunteered my services and provided help in the wedding planning as needed. We have had many gatherings at the table following Sunday dinner to work as a team and get things done such as the wedding mailing list. I am pleased and honored to be standing with Gary and Che on their most important day.

Gary and I met around the year 2000 through a mutual friend of ours, Andre Holland. We naturally connected due to our common interests. We are both big sneaker heads, enjoy music, and are avid sports fans (Texans over Titans all day). Over time, our paths crossed even more when we started to work together at Verizon Wireless and I ended up becoming Gary's supervisor. LOL....not sure how in the world that managed to happen but we can look back and say that there was never a dull moment between us. Gary and I have now been friends almost 20 years and he has always been a stand up guy. He has been a great friend and I consider him as a brother from another mother. I am happy and honored to have been chosen to participate in this union!

Sang Quita! Yep, I use to spend summers hanging out at Aunt Iris' house karaoking to Atlantic Starr. I clearly remember Quita and I standing in the middle of the living room next to the record player screaming our hearts out sounding like wounded cats. I knew then that whomever decided to be her better half, had to be just that....better at singing! I have been her cousin all her life and I am proud to be her cousin. She has pursued her master's at Lipscomb, extended herself as a teacher, and welcomed those whom she loves into her home. Quita, I love you and I am excited to see you and Gary's love match the love that I share with my hubby of 12 years. On behalf of me and my hubby, James Frierson, and our wonderful children, we want to wish you and Gary a lifetime of intimacy.

I love you both and I'm so excited to be a part of the Celebration of LOVE!!

Hello, I am Ernest Johnson and I am a native Nashvillian. I had the pleasure of meeting Gary during our freshman year in high school at Hume Fogg Academic. Gary and I went on to attend Florida A&M University together, followed by Tennessee State University. While our friendship has spanned almost three full decades, I have been in Gary’s presence with Chequita several times over the last few months, and I can honestly say, I’ve never seen him happier! I would like to wish this wonderful couple all the best life has to offer!

Gary & I met as intrepid, young summer campers at the Downtown YMCA in the mid-80s. Gary wisely observed as I found ways to stir up all kinds of shenanigans at camp. When safe, Gary joined in the fun. When foolish, Gary was keen to give me a wide berth. 😄 Gary and I were reconnected at Hume-Fogg High School. Together, with many other friends, we made great, lifetime memories. And upon graduation from high school, took the show on the road to Florida A&M University. The adventure continued, adding many other cherished memories. Not the least of which was having the opportunity to be founding members of the famed Deuce Mob. Though adulthood has led us all on differing paths, it is truly an honor to come together and share in Gary & Chequita's big day. Mazel tov!
Bridesmaid
I have been a long time friend of the bride since meeting at John Overton High School. We have gone to college together, taken trips together, and over the years have remained good friends. But the funniest thing about this friendship is that we couldn't be more opposite while I should have horns. Chequita will always be the one with the Halo. God puts people in your life for a reason and Che's reason was and will always be to keep me on a straight path, while I try to get her to loosen up and live a little. I am an author, speaker, and real estate mogul in South Carolina. I am the mother of 2 wonderful kids JOB (16) and Genesis (11). I am married to Tracy Logan. Marriage is a blessing but it is hard work. I pray you have a long and prosperous marriage. I love you Chequita!

I am very happy for Bird and Chequita while being honored to be a part of their special day.

I am Kennetha Foster-Valentine, affectionately known as “Momma K”. I first met Chequita and Gary when our churches (Greater Grace Temple & Mount Gilead) combined congregations. Gary and Chequita both shared in a Sunday school class that I was teaching at Mt. Gilead and it seems like there was a “family connection” from day 1. It was not long after that Chequita and I developed a rare but beautiful friendship, first by homemade banana cake (LMBO) then just pure sisterly love. Gary has always been a very welcoming/encouraging friend. Che came to my wedding and supported me through the whole day and I LOVE HER for that. So I could not image not sharing her day with her. I LOVE THESE TWO (soon to become one). Now the “Steeler Girl” has a new fan for life…His name is #GaryforLife!
