Our Nerdy Love Story

How two nerds kept avoiding the inevitable

Logan and Sarah first met online before meeting in person at the 2006 Kleinwood Singing. Logan was pretty much awestruck at how cute she was (even though she thought he was weird at the time). Logan's mom met Sarah during an out of town trip and pretty much decided that Sarah was the girl for him. Logan's mom encouraged him over the years to give Sarah a chance, but the timing was never right. They met up every year at Dry Creek Camp and stayed in touch on Facebook afterward. Years later, he noticed that she commented frequently on his Facebook posts and he was convinced that she was interested in him. Sarah's mom invited Logan and his mother to a gospel meeting after Sarah posted an old picture of them from camp. Although the timing still wasn't right for them to date, they discovered just how much they had in common. They talked about things such as Doctor Who, MCU movies, Dungeons and Dragons (the inspiration for #DawsonsandDragons!), and many other topics. Logan tried working up the courage to ask Sarah out after that, but she still only saw him as friend. Even though nothing happened for a while, they both had each other in the back of their minds as a potential love interest. About a year later, after much counseling from close friends and acquaintances, Logan finally worked up the courage to ask Sarah out on December 14th, 2018. He fully expected her to say no due to his bad luck with romance, but she said yes! At that moment, he knew this was the woman he was going to marry. They had their first date on January 1st, 2019 and he asked her to marry him on July 5th, 2019. They look forward to seeing where this epic, life-changing quest takes them and can't wait to celebrate with everyone!

The Proposal

July 5th, 2019

Logan knew for some time that he wanted to ask Sarah to marry him. They planned to spend a week together over the summer. He knew this would be the perfect time to propose. However, he was informed that the ring wouldn't be ready until two days before the proposal, meaning that he couldn't sneak away to pick it up. He started contacting friends to pick up the ring, which made Sarah suspicious. Logan reached out to a photographer friend (Alex Fairchild) to do a surprise engagement photo shoot at Waterwall Park in Houston. Logan just had to keep Sarah busy with fun activities until it was time. They started the day with going to Hobbit Cafe before heading to the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Enough time was spent at the museum that he only had to keep her busy for a little bit longer. They made a couple of stops near the park. When Alex and her husband Ryan were ready, Logan took them over to the park. Logan began to fidget and act a bit nervous, which caused Sarah to grow more suspicious of the proposal. He brought her up to the Waterwall and allowed Alex to take some pictures (unbeknownst to Sarah) before proposing. Just before the proposal, Sarah reached behind he back and felt the box in his hand. He couldn't keep it a secret anymore, so he turned to her and quoted a guard from Skyrim, "You know, I used to be an adventurer like you, until I took an arrow to the knee." Logan then got down on one knee, and Sarah began saying yes before he could even actually ask the question! He was finally able to ask and give her the ring before telling her of the photoshoot. Afterwards, they all celebrated at Cheescake Factory.
