Washington Park, Cheesman Park, and City Park are all popular spots for relaxing outdoors. All you need is some snacks, and a few cans of beer (remember, no glass!) and you’ve got a classic Colorado experience covered.
About 90 minutes from Denver, but plan an entire day to spend there if you go. Plentiful hikes, or take an easy drive with plenty of sights on Trail Ridge Road, which traverses the park and tops out at 12,183 feet of elevation (bring a jacket)! Big mountains, alpine lakes, and a high chance of spotting elk, moose, mountain goats and more. Reservation required this year, plan ahead!
Take a sunny hike on the Red Rocks Trail and enjoy the unique geology. The famous amphitheater is free and open to the public on days where there are no events scheduled. You can skip the hike and park right near the ampitheater, but expect a lot of stairs.
The curator is a very knowledgeable historian and the artifacts and rich history on display to learn about the Black American West is phenomenal. They recently won a preservation grant (yay!) and are under renovation but plan to be open by September. Check their website when you are here if you would like to visit which will confirm if they are back open.
