This journey began in 2013 during their freshman year of high school. Gin was one of the very first friends Shardae made at Southfield High. It was in Ms. Bowman’s computer class that he finally introduced himself (after spending all of 7th hour the day before staring at her in Mrs. Criteman’s math class) as “Vontae,” but Shardae had other plans. She refused to call him that and instead decided to call him by his last name, “Ginwright.” Just like that, a special friendship began. Life took them on different paths when Shardae transferred schools, but fate clearly had its own plans. They reconnected during their senior year of high school and soon discovered they would be attending the same college—a sign, if there ever was one. It wasn’t until their junior year of college that their friendship blossomed into something more, and they officially began dating. That marked the beginning of the love story they continue to cherish today. In 2022, they welcomed the greatest blessing into their lives—their daughter, Kai. She brought even more love, laughter, and purpose to their growing family. Then, on January 4, 2025, Gin gave Shardae the proposal of her dreams: a surprise engagement party surrounded by family and friends. It was a perfect moment filled with joy, love, and happy tears. Now, they are counting down the days until they say “I do” and begin this exciting new chapter as husband and wife.
