If you ask Stephen about the first time we technically met, he would say, he was handed a phone and told to give a random girl directions to a New Years Eve party at his apartment. That random girl turned out to be Bri. If you ask Bri about the first time we technically met, she would say, a random guy joined a group brunch outing. That random guy turned out to be Stephen. However, the agreed-upon story on how we officially met, was through mutual friends on a river floating trip in Austin. Beer pong + 6th Street + River floating + Party bus = the beginning of a long distance relationship between Dallas and Houston.
May 26, 2019 started off as ordinary as any other, except for an ongoing bug issue which continued to plague Bri’s house. Cleaning for hours on end was now the new normal as we worked to eradicate those suckers. Little did Bri know, a Sunday morning of cleaning would turn into a day that she (and apparently many others based off the constant reminders) had been waiting on. One thing important to me was for the proposal to be a complete surprise. With a trip to Hawaii scheduled, I thought it would be the perfect cover. I decided to go with a less obvious proposal at one of our favorite Houston spots, Buffalo Bayou Park, the weekend before Hawaii. Under the disguise that I was going to go to a brewery and Bri was going to dinner with her family, we parted ways. I could only hope that Bri was still feeling up to getting out of her sweatpants and going to dinner after hours of cleaning. Finally, I got the text from her family that Bri was still cooperating and they were on their way to the spot. I raced to the proposal location to beat Bri who was now being stalled by her dad. As I was retold the events of the car ride, it sounded like what I call a ‘Typical Davis Car Ride’, full of strong personalities and excitement. Finally, they arrived at the park. Now, Bri was not as cooperative anymore and didn't want to get out of the car due to frustrations of a morning full of cleaning, a car ride where every wrong turn was taken, and being ‘Hangry’. Thanks to a little coaxing from Shea's friend, they finally got Bri to get out of the car and up the stairs to take an Instagram worthy photo for her sister. Finally, Bri was up the stairs, me in position. After missing me at first, she finally turned in my direction with a face of complete shock as she realized what was going on. The rest is history. I succeeded in making it a very surprising proposal, Bri succeeded in getting the rock on her hand and together we succeeded in locking down forever together!
