They met at work. They both worked for Northern Light Medical Transport, previously known as Capital Ambulance. She worked days and he worked nights. Their shifts overlapped, they started talking, and everything fell into place.
She knew he had a ring. She may have found it in his gun safe and she may have checked every day to see if it was still there. His plan was to propose at the beach. She woke up early and got in the shower so that she could be ready to leave for the beach when he got home from work that morning. He couldn't wait for the beach, he was too nervous, too excited. He came through the front door and she was still in the shower. She could hear him come through the door, the dogs barking in excitement that Dad was home. She heard him say, "why are you in the shower?" He was earlier than she expected and turned off the water to get dressed and ready. He told her he bought her a coffee. She said "thank you," happy about the coffee but also confused because usually they stopped for drinks before driving to the beach. "Come get your coffee," he said. She told him she'd be out soon. Her hair was dripping and she wasn't dressed. He became very adamant that she come out and get her coffee. She huffed, wrapped a towel around herself, and went out to the kitchen. He was on one knee, coffee in hand, with the ring around the straw.
