The Baraat is a celebratory wedding procession for the groom, where he leads his friends and family to the wedding venue where the bride and her loved ones are waiting. It represents the groom's journey to unite with his bride and the bride's family's welcoming of the groom and his loved ones. The procession is often accompanied by musicians with dancing, singing and celebrating.
The Mehndi is a joyful and vibrant pre-wedding tradition in Indian culture. During this event, the bride's hands and feet are adorned with intricate mehndi (henna) designs to symbolize the bond of matrimony and bring good luck. Guests are also invited to participate in the Mehndi ceremony.
The Sangeet is an evening filled with music and dancing - including performances by the bride and groom's close friends and family. The word Sangeet means "sung together" and originated in Punjab, where, traditionally women in the household would sing folk songs and dance. It symbolizes the coming together of two families and marks the start of the wedding festivities.
The dress code for Friday's celebration is cocktail attire. Indian attire is encouraged, but by no means required. We want our guests to be comfortable and enjoy the evening! Lehengas, sarees, summer cocktail dresses, Nehru jackets, kurta pyjamas, and jackets and slacks are all welcome. Saturday's dress code is formal attire. Floor-length gowns or formal cocktail dresses and suit and tie are suggested. Please be mindful that the events will be held outside in the grass, so we recommend selecting footwear accordingly. Sunday's dress code is casual. No athletic wear, please.
Yes, shuttles will be picking up and dropping off at the Annapolis Waterfront Hotel and The Graduate for both the Friday and Saturday events. On Friday, shuttles will depart at 5 pm. On Saturday, they will depart at 3:45 pm. Sunday's brunch is located in downtown Annapolis near many of the lodging options. Parking is limited to street parking and public parking garages.
