How We Met.

College or Online?

Davika and Tom met the "old-fashioned" way on an online dating app called Coffee Meets Bagel. Davika noticed one of her best friends, Deepika, on his dating profile photos, and Tom recognized Deviya on Davika's profile. Needless to say, they matched and decided to go on their first date on December 27th, 2015. Before the date, both of them called Deepika with 15 minutes of each other and asked if they should bother going on a date. Spoiler alert, Deepika said yes to both of them, and they got engaged and are about to be married. ;) On their first date, Davika and Tom quickly found that they had a lot of friends in common, and their friends had found photos of each other at the same parties and events in the years prior, but they could not remember seeing each other, but it was clear they had met before. So the question is, what counts first, meeting online in 2015 or the parties from 2012-2014 when you can't remember the person? You all decide; Davika and Tom still can't agree.

About the Hashtag.

Davika is known to have a coffee addiction for everyone who doesn't know. When Tom and Davika started to date, Tom explained he preferred tea to coffee; she was horrified. With this knowledge intact and unknown to Tom, Davika engaged in a long-term plan for Tom to love the coffee the way she does. Now six years later, Tom is the one that will make a pour-over coffee in the morning and will join Davika in seeking out great coffee roasters from all over the country to make the prefect cup of coffee. Davika and Tom are known for their love of food and will often travel to different places and search for the best small mom-and-pop places to grab a bite. With every place Davika and Tom have traveled, the two constant places they will always look for are a great coffee shop and the best donut they can find, hence #coffeemeetsdonuts.

Proposal

7.11.2020

Hi Tom here, so when it came to our engagement, we had an unusual experience. The plan was to propose in late April 2020. I got the ring from the jeweler in March 2020. I asked Alpa and Dakshesh for permission, Deviya booked a flight, and began to talk with family and friends for ideas. I started to look at restaurants in Princeton since this was the town where we went on many of our earlier dates. The restaurants told me that there was this thing called COVID-19, and they were not taking any reservations. I did not know what they were talking about and was hoping maybe we spend a few weeks indoors and the whole thing would blow over. Then mid-march hit, and the world started to shut down. Everyone freaked out and bought a ton of toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and alcohol, including us. The days of online grocery pickups, excessive hand washing, and zoom get-togethers were among us. There was no way for me to propose the way I wanted. So I had to improvise. I started taking long walks and ranting to Deepika about how I would pop the question during a hike. In my mind, the pandemic was never going to end, and as long as the two of us were there, that's all that mattered. Luckily, Deepika convinced me to wait, and eventually, restaurants started outdoor dining. On the day of the proposal, I told Davika that I had to go to my parents' house to help my family with some work around the house. In reality, I and some close friends spent the afternoon preparing Steve's backyard for an party after the proposal happened. It started to rain on my way back home, and Davika asked if we wanted to stay in and get pizza. To Davika's surprise, I said no, which is very unlike me since I can always eat pizza. To Davika's frustration, we then went out to dinner at our favorite restaurant, Project PUB. During the entire time, I was very nervous. Davika did not understand why I was not eating after making her go out. After dinner, Chris brought the ring out on a plate with desserts and flowers from his mother's garden, then I proposed. I spent weeks writing what I was going to say, but Davika was so surprised she could not comprehend what was happening. Shortly after, our friends arrived with our family on facetime, and we had our first party during the pandemic and our first party as an engaged couple.
