Davielle's friends set her up with Bernard on a dating app. Davielle and Bernard fall in love in London, exploring all the city has to offer. They take exciting trips to Italy, Ireland and the US, discovering new places together and showing each other where they grew up. Then Davielle moves back to the US and the couple goes long distance for over a year (they learn to video chat way before it was cool). Finally Bernard gets his visa and moves across an ocean to a brand new country! Only three weeks in Bernard loses his job and faces deportation. Bernard is fortunate to find a new job quickly and the couple is back on track taking in all “Bernard’s firsts” in the US such as Yankees games, swimming and boating in Lake Naomi, visiting cities like Washington, DC and Boston, and learning to snowboard in the Poconos. Enter COVID-19. Davielle and Bernard hunker down in their tiny Hoboken apartment and begin living and working from home while somehow not killing each other in the process. At the time, Bernard is scrambling to adjust his proposal plans thanks to lockdown. On Memorial Day weekend, Bernard proposes to Davielle with a customized sign at Lake Naomi. Bernard knew that Davielle wanted to celebrate with friends and family, and to her delight, a day of Zoom sessions, wine and a steak dinner awaited them back at the house. The engagement excitement is quickly replaced with planning for their legal wedding and the preparation for the next stage of Bernard’s visa application. See, while Davielle and Bernard cannot wait to celebrate their wedding on October 16, 2021 with you all, they are already married! The couple legally tied the knot on July 10, 2020 at Davielle’s family’s lakehouse with her closest family in the room and, in true 2020 fashion, his closest family on Zoom. So like we said, it’s your typical boy meets girl story. Only throw in a long distance relationship, visa applications, job loss, and a global pandemic. Totally typical!
