It all began at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Minnesota. Larissa had moved from Brazil, and David—who had once lived in Brazil years before—was now going to the holy hour at the first Thursday of the month in Edina. Though our paths could have crossed back then, it wasn’t yet our time. In March of 2024, everything changed. We met at a young professionals’ event after Holy Hour. The room was full of friendly chatter and warm smiles, but David heard something that stopped him in his tracks—Portuguese. Larissa was speaking with someone nearby, and without thinking twice, David turned and began speaking to her in fluent Portuguese. We started dating shortly after and spent the next few months getting to know each other deeply—through long walks, Masses together, laughter, and talks about faith, family, and dreams. One especially beautiful day, we went biking and swimming at Lake. The early summer air was warm, the water was refreshing, and the sunset painted the sky in soft golds and blue. That’s when David asked Larissa to be his girlfriend—and she said yes with a smile that made everything around us glow. Life was joyful, and our love continued to grow. Then came a moment that reminded us just how precious life is. David was in a plane crash in Toronto, Canada. By God’s grace, he survived unharmed. As soon as he landed safely back in Minnesota, he didn’t want to wait another moment. He went straight to Larissa, knelt down, and asked her to be his wife. On February 18th, 2025. We both knew the answer long before he asked. This love—God’s timing, our shared faith, the journey from Brazil to Minnesota to each other—it’s more than we could have ever hoped for.
