An initiative to support and promote community-based educational development projects in Africa. In the Kiswahili language, “harambee” means “all together”. It is the cry of the fishermen when they pull the nets ashore; it is word of mouth when it is necessary to start a common activity, such as helping a family in need or building a school or church. Started in 2002 with an initial public call for proposals, open to all organizations dedicated to educational programs in sub-Saharan Africa, the requests for help received were studied and funds allocated. Since then, over eighty initiatives have been launched thanks to the participation of Harambee committees around the world. Harambee is not an act of charity towards a people in need. It is rather an act of trust towards people who are passionate (about working) for the development of their community, and an act of hope towards a young and vibrant continent.

The Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC) advocates for humane and just immigration policy. Its field-based network of grassroots nonprofit immigration programs (370 affiliates in 49 states and the District of Columbia) is the largest in the nation.
A much-heralded grassroots pregnancy center in DC founded in 1981 that “seeks to promote the dignity of women and a respect for all human life. We seek to accomplish this goal by offering the loving support and comprehensive aid necessary to enable all women to continue their pregnancies, deliver healthy babies, and adequately care for themselves and their children.” As a bonus, it employs a number of fine graduates of Catholic University’s programs in psychology and social work!
