How we met

Hinge or bust!

(Mels version) We met on our first date at TopGolf since David thought he could beat me at it. From David's perspective, he thinks he won, but we have yet to ask Ashley, our server, who saw me win firsthand on the last spit fire round. David was intrigued by me being a teacher and referenced Billy Madison jokes on our first date. Arriving to the date, David told me he knew some people I knew. I thought to myself ... this could be great or this could be bad. Turns out, David knew some awesome church friends that I knew! Right then, I felt comfortable knowing we had solid mutual friends in common, but I had see it for myself. Continuing on the date, Dave and I cheered over beer and I thought "this guy is cool." After winning, we talked for another hour or so over random topics ranging from teaching to our favorite hobbies. We both enjoyed each other's company, had a lot in common, except for when it came to college football. David is a die hard Michigan fan, but I cheer my victory for MSU! (Davids Version) It started off around Thanksgiving of 2019. I was on the dating app called Hinge and swiped right on Melanie! Her profile was pretty cool - I later asked her what made her swipe right on me, she said "It was your Super Mario picture." I worked up the courage to send her a video of myself showing her who I am instead of just texting her. To this day, she still has it saved on her phone. In one of the videos, I challenged her to meet up at Top Golf and see if she could take me on - she was kinda bragging of how much of an athlete she was. A few days later we met at Top Golf. Since she was a teacher, I made a risky move by joking around with her on some Billy Madison references. I'm lucky that she laughed at my corney jokes. Towards the middle of the date, I told her we have a few mutual friends. She was a little freaked out and curious - I told her I would reveal the answers to her if she won. With a minute to go in our top golf round, Mel was catching up - I still had a lead, but the game shut off and did not record Mel's final shot. I ended up revealing our mutual friends anyway and as Mel said above, they were awesome church friends. After golfing, we talked for over an hour or so - topics ranged from what is your favorite color to serious topics on religion and the importance of being centered in Christ (I know, first date!) to her being a Spartan fan (which is almost a sin in my book lol). There was no first kiss on the first date - she really made me work for it. We hugged goodbye and she told me to stay in touch. As you can see, I did lol.

For all the days along the way
